A big day out in London and a big day for Organic
Last week, Raye and I took the train up to London for this year’s Soil Association trade conference.
Over 200 people from all aspects of the organic sector were there, including some of the biggest brands, retailers and producers of organic goods.
As the day followed hot on the heels of the release of the UK Government’s new Organic Action Plan and there was a really excitement about what this could mean for the organic movement.
Steady growth continues
The UK market for organic has continued to grow, albeit slowly, and the aim of the new action plan is to speed up that growth to match demand currently being met by imports.
A recent survey sugests that as many as 83% of households are buying organic so it’s clear that more and more people are getting the message.
If the action plan achieves its aims, by 2036 10% of UK farming land will be dedicated to organic crops.
What did we take home?
As with most sector specific events like this, we saw a lot of familiar faces and friends, but it was lovely to feel a renewed sense of purpose this time. There will be many opportunities for businesses to grow in the next decade and with everyone pulling in the same direction, the organic movement should continue to rise!

For the facts and figures behind all this, the Soil Association’s organic market report is a great to start.
